Why am I no longer receiving local news the way I used to? Is it related to the COVID-19 pandemic?

Some TV and radio stations have been finding it difficult to provide full local programming services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, certain broadcasters have made the exceptional business decision to reduce the amount of local content aired. However, local news can still be obtained through many stations’ digital services such as their social media accounts and websites.

The CRTC realizes that the current crisis may make it difficult for regular broadcasts to be carried out. The CRTC also recognizes the efforts all Canadian broadcasters are making to provide up-to-date news and information to Canadians about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Commission will continue to monitor the situation and the effects on Canadians.
