Local Broadcast Markets
Diversity of Voices
The parameters of the Diversity of Voices markets used in this page are determined using the Numeris (formerly BBM Canada) definition of the local radio market.
The data provided is for information only. The Commission assesses the Diversity of Voices on a case-by-case basis according to each station’s market, as defined in the Radio Regulations, 1986.
The broadcasting data listed in the tables is based on the originating radio and television programming undertakings and their ownership, as approved by the Commission. Some undertakings may not yet be in operation.
Where a new FM radio has been approved for the purpose of converting an AM radio to FM band, both undertakings are identified until the end of the simulcast period is confirmed. They should be counted as a single voice at all times.
The tables also include information regarding the broadcasting distribution undertakings offering a community channel in a market and the daily newspapers serving the market. This data is based on information from external sources. The Commission is not responsible for omissions or errors that this external information may contain. The Commission will consider any corrections or additions it receives and will update its tables on a regular basis.
The definitions of local newspaper, local television and local radio, are set out in Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2008-4.
