central office (CO)
- Definition
- Dial or manual telephone switching equipment with a capacity of up to 10,000 main telephone numbers and/or trunk lines. A central office is typically housed in a wire centre, which is a room or building that serves a designated geographical area and where customers' lines terminate and/or interconnect.
