VoIP services
- Definition
- Voice communication services using Internet Protocol (IP) that use telephone numbers that conform to the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) and provide universal access to and/or from the public switched telephone network (PSTN). For users who have free, or fixed-price Internet access, Internet telephony software essentially provides free telephone calls anywhere in the world. To date, however, Internet telephony does not offer the same quality of telephone service as direct telephone connections. (Sources: Telecom Decision CRTC 2006-53; Webopedia)
