Ottawa, 15 June 2001 |
|
James Bay Cree Communications Society |
|
Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 2000-105 dated 17 July 2000 |
|
Licence renewal for the native radio network at Mistissini |
|
1. |
The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the Cree-language radio network operated by James Bay Cree Communications Society, from 1 September 2001 to 31 August 2008, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued. |
2. |
The licensee applied to renew its licence under the same terms and conditions as its current licence. |
3. |
Decision CRTC 92-108 indicated that this network produces 15 hours per week of programming in the Cree language. The network is owned and controlled by a not-for-profit organization whose structure provides for membership, management, operation, and programming by members of the Cree communities of northern Quebec. |
4. |
The renewal of this licence reflects Public Notice CRTC 2001-70 also issued today. As indicated in the notice, the Commission no longer imposes limits on the advertising broadcast by native radio stations and networks. However, it requires that they broadcast a Canadian content level of at least 35% in popular (category 2) music. Consequently, it is a condition of licence that the licensee devote a minimum of 35% of all Category 2 musical selections broadcast each broadcast week to Canadian selections. |
