In Public Notice CRTC 1992-72 dated 2 November 1992, and entitled "A Review of the CRTC's Regulations and Policies for Radio", the Commission announced that it would be prepared to eliminate the requirement for radio stations to seek approval from the Commission for the relocation of antenna sites and broadcast studios. The Commission will still require licensees of radio stations to apply to the Commission for approval to change their coverage area.

In the same notice, the Commission also announced that it would remove the policy requirement for commercial English-language FM stations limiting the number of times a non-Canadian musical selection may be repeated (the maximum repeat factor), as well as the requirement that these stations ensure that a minimum of 850 distinct musical selections be broadcast each week.
|

In Public Notice CRTC 1993-10 dated 17 February 1993, the Commission announced applications submitted by various licensees in response to the Commission's statement in Public Notice CRTC 1992-72 that it would be prepared to eliminate the above-noted requirements. Specifically, the Commission approves the applications to amend the licences of CIMO-FM, CFCW, CKDQ and CFQX-FM by deleting the following terms of licence concerning the antenna site location, as set out in each licence:

... with the broadcasting transmitting antenna(s) located at a site(s) authorized by the Commission.
|
The Commission, however, denies the part of the applications to amend the licences for CIMO-FM, CFCW, CKDQ and CFQX-FM by replacing the terms of licence concerning the studio location. Based on the licensing histories of these stations, the Commission wishes to retain the flexibility to review in some detail the manner in which these stations continue to provide service to the communities for which they are licensed, should they wish to relocate their studios in the future.

In the case of Radio QX-FM Inc., the Commission also approves the application to amend the licence of CFQX-FM Selkirk by deleting the requirements contained in the licensee's Promise of Performance, Part II, specifying a minimum weekly number of distinct musical selections, excluding repeats, and a maximum number of times a distinct musical selection may be broadcast.
