The CRTC is committed to delivering tangible results for Canadians. This means reliable, affordable and high-quality Internet and cellphone services, a modern and inclusive broadcasting system, and protection from unwanted texts, calls and online scams.
We are focussing our resources to deliver on specific areas in 2023 while we begin to develop and seek input on priorities for 2024 and beyond.

Areas of Focus
Promote competition to deliver reliable and high-quality Internet and cellphone services to Canadians at lower prices
The CRTC will:
- Update its approach to Internet services competition
- Take action to promote competition in the cellphone services market
- Work with government partners to improve the reliability of Canada’s networks, including access to emergency services
- Improve its Broadband Fund
Modernize Canada’s broadcasting system to promote Canadian and Indigenous content
The CRTC will:
- Hold public consultations, including on how broadcasters and online streaming services should support content production, and how Canadian and Indigenous content is defined
- Actively encourage Canadians to participate in its proceedings and public consultations
Improve the CRTC to better serve Canadians
The CRTC will:
- Make faster and more transparent decisions
- Reach more Canadians by improving engagement
- Continue to build internal capacity and expertise
Ongoing Priorities
Advance reconciliation
The CRTC will:
- Actively engage Indigenous Peoples, including on how to improve Internet and cellphone services and on how to modernize Canada’s broadcasting system to promote Indigenous content
Protect Canadians from unwanted texts, calls and online scams
The CRTC will:
- Collaborate and share information with international and domestic partners, including through the use of bilateral agreements
- Continue to work closely with stakeholder and enforcement partners to identify and address these activities
Empower consumers
The CRTC will:
- Make sure all Canadians have the information they need to determine which service is right for them
- Review protections in place for consumers when service outages occur
Improve accessibility
The CRTC will:
- Continue to review and improve Canada’s Video Relay Service (VRS)
