Larger broadcasters must provide described video for all English- and French-language programming that is broadcast during prime time (i.e., from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.) and that is drawn from program categories listed below.
Generally speaking, smaller broadcasters must offer at least four hours of described programming per broadcast week of English- or French-language programming drawn from any of the program categories listed below.
If a licensee broadcasts less than four hours per broadcast week of English- or French-language programming drawn from any of the program categories listed below, it shall, by the beginning of the fourth year of the first licence term during which this condition of licence applies, provide described video for all of that programming.
Described video categories
These requirements apply to programming drawn from the following program categories set out in Item 6 of Schedule 1 to the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, as amended from time to time:

The information used to compile the charts below was taken from the CRTC TV logs, as submitted to the Commission by the licensees. Summaries will be posted here twice per year and moving forward, the data from the latest five years will be kept and made available.
This is not a compliance exercise. The purpose of these summaries is to provide an overview of how many hours of described programming are available in the traditional Canadian system and which programming categories that programming is falling into. These summaries do not include described video programming found online.
