Working together to fight spam
Transcript
- Spam is irritating, it can also be threatening, housing malicious malware, viruses and other cyber threats.
- Spam thrives because spammers profit from it.
- So, what do we do about spam?
- To start, Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation requires a consent and an “unsubscribe” option, making it harder for spammers to succeed.
- So what can you do to help us?
- Report spam!
- Canadians report thousands of spam messages to us every week. We use this information to investigate malware, false and misleading advertising as well as spyware.
- Each report of spam is valuable. They all form a piece of the puzzle that helps us go after the worst offenders.
- Violators can face severe penalties of up to $10 million dollars for each violation.
- Our main goal is to protect you and make spammers think twice about sending spam to Canadians.
- Together, we can fight spam.
