Online Undertakings Registration, Deregistration and Amendment Form – Form 158

Overview

Pursuant to the Online Undertakings Registration Regulations SOR/2023-203 (Registration Regulations), operators^Footnote1, meaning any person operating an online business that operates in whole or in part in Canada, must register their online business(es) with the CRTC. The Exemption order for classes of online undertakings in respect of the Online Undertakings Registration Regulations, Broadcasting Order CRTC 2023-330, 29 September 2023 (Broadcasting Order 2023-330) sets out the four classes of online businesses that are exempted from the registration requirement.

Accordingly, operators of online undertakings that have annual Canadian gross revenues^Footnote2 from broadcasting activities of $10 million or more after deducting any excluded revenue^Footnote3, alone or as part of a broadcasting ownership group^Footnote4, must register all of their online undertakings with the CRTC. This must be done regardless of how much revenue each individual undertaking earns.

Further, according to section 4 of the Registration Regulations, the operator is required to inform the Commission of any changes to the previously provided information by submitting updated information within thirty days of the date of the change.

Finally, according to section 5(1) of the Registration Regulations, the operator must submit an online deregistration request within thirty days of the date they cease operating their business.

General Instructions

Filing

You can file the registration form electronically via My CRTC Account by attaching the form and its appendices to the Broadcasting and Online News Act Cover Page. My CRTC Account allows you to securely submit documents to the Commission with a user ID and password. Therefore, a signature is not required when using My CRTC Account. Registrants who file in this manner are not required to submit a hard copy of the form.

Important notice: The Commission may return the registration form if it has not been correctly completed.
