Overview

This form is to register a station as an exempt low-power tourist information radio undertaking or a low-power radio undertaking providing programming from a house of worship.

The undertaking is required to provide updates of any subsequent change of information within 30 days by resubmitting this registration form. Registration and subsequent updates, if applicable, are to be filed electronically via My CRTC Account by attaching to the Broadcasting and Online News Act Cover Page a letter explaining changes of information.

The Commission also expects the undertaking to notify the Commission when it no longer wishes to operate the exempted low-power station by means of My CRTC Account, attaching a letter to that effect to the Broadcasting and Online News Act Cover Page.

Before completing this application form, please ensure that you have first applied to the Department of Industry (also known as Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada [ISED]) to receive a broadcasting certificate (which includes the assignment of a frequency and approval of a call sign). Once the registration of the radio programming undertaking is processed, information pertaining to the undertaking will be added to the list entitled List of broadcasting services that do and do not need a licence (the List) available on the Commission’s website.

Filing

You may file electronically via My CRTC Account by attaching the registration form to the  Broadcasting and Online News Act Cover Page. My CRTC Account allows you to securely submit documents to the Commission with a user ID and password. Therefore, a signature is not required when using My CRTC Account.

2.3 National Public Alerting System

*The licensee will implement the National Public Alerting System (NPAS) by the station’s launch in the manner set out in section 16 of the Radio Regulations, 1986, and in Amendments to various regulations, the standard conditions of licence for video-on-demand undertakings and certain exemption orders – Provisions requiring the mandatory distribution of emergency alert messages, Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2014-444 and Broadcasting Orders CRTC 2014-445, 2014-446, 2014-447 and 2014-448, 29 August 2014, as amended from time to time.

2.4 Subsidiary Communications Multiplex Operations (SCMO)

To have a complete overview of the broadcasting system, the Commission believes that all licensed station operators, as well as exempt tourist information stations and places of worship that broadcast content on their SCMO, should be required to register it with the Commission.

4. Compliance with the Exemption Order

To operate as an exempt low-power tourist radio programming undertaking or a low-power radio undertaking providing programming from a house of worship, registrants must abide by the terms and conditions applicable to exempt low-power radio programming undertakings as set out in BRP 2026-118.

Confirm that you will abide by the orders and conditions set out in BRP 2026-118, including that the undertaking will meet technical and relevant programming-related requirements that the undertaking has implemented a public alerting system on all of its stations, and that the undertaking will be owned and controlled by Canadians, as defined in the Direction to the CRTC (Ineligibility of non-Canadians), by answering “I agree ” below.
