Consultation about Google’s exemption application under the Online News Act

We invited comments on the request by Google to be exempted from the bargaining provisions of the Online News Act. The application for exemption followed an agreement reached by Google and the Canadian Journalism Collective and would provide $100M in funding annually to the Canadian news sector, administered by the Collective.

- the length of the exemption order
- whether Google’s application, based on its agreement with the Canadian Journalism Collective, meets the exemption requirements
- from which provisions of the Online News Act Google should be exempted
- whether any condition(s) should be attached to the exemption order
