Subject: Re-opening of the Consultation on Telecommunications services in the Far North to Inuit and Nunavummiut views (Notice of Consultation CRTC 2022-147)

Dear Aluki Kotierk:

We are writing to seek your perspective on how telecommunications services can be improved for Inuit and Nunavummiut.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (the Commission) recognizes that telecommunications services are critical for Inuit and Nunavummiut to fully participate in today’s digital society. We are committed to improving the coverage, quality and affordability of these services throughout Inuit Nunangat. The Consultation on Telecommunications Services in the Far North, as well as our research and engagement with rights-holders, northern communities and others, has highlighted some of the unique challenges faced by Inuit and Nunavummiut.

Inuit and Nunavummiut voices are crucial to the Commission’s deliberations on how to improve telecommunications services in northern communities. The Commission is therefore seeking your input to ensure that the full diversity of views is represented in its proceeding regarding telecommunications in the Far North. The Commission has reopened its consultation, inviting interested persons to make new submissions that provide Nunavut and Inuit Nunangat perspectives on issues outlined in the Notice of Consultation CRTC 2022-147. Those who would like to provide comments can do so until November 29, 2023.

If you prefer to provide input through an alternative method, such as through an audio or video recording, please contact Matthew Tošaj, the Telecommunications Sector’s head of Engagement, by email at Matthew.Tosaj@crtc.gc.ca or by phone at 613-878-6887.

The Commission understands that certain telecommunications challenges faced by Inuit and Nunavummiut go beyond the scope of the Consultation on Telecommunications Services in the Far North. Given this, we look forward to continuing to build relationships with Inuit and Nunavummiut through collaborative engagement to overcome these challenges.

Sincerely,

Marc Morin
Secretary General
