RE: Jeopardy Condition Suspension for Area Code Complex 204/431
Kelly T. Walsh:
By letter and email dated 17 November 2021, the Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA) advised CRTC staff that based on the results of the October 2021 Jeopardy Numbering Resource Utilisation Forecast (J-NRUF), area code complex 204/431, is no longer in a jeopardy condition.
In its letter, the CNA indicated that it will:
- declare the suspension of the jeopardy condition in area code complex 204/431;
- stop enforcing the area code complex 204/431 jeopardy condition plan located in Appendix F of the Canadian NPA Relief Planning Guideline; and
- conduct quarterly area code complex 204/431 Special – Numbering Resource Utilization Forecasts at the area code level of detail.
The CNA also indicated that it will continue to restrict central office (CO) code assignments based on the July 2021 Relief – Numbering Resource Utilization Forecast (R-NRUF). The CNA noted that this restriction is required, as the October 2021 R-NRUF indicated that if there was unrestricted CO code assignments, the area code complex could slip back into a jeopardy condition before the introduction of the new relief area code.
CRTC staff agrees with the CNA’s approach to suspending the jeopardy condition in area code complex 204/431 as noted in the foregoing.
