Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2007-103-1

CHNK-FM - Technical change

1. The Commission approves the application by Newcap Radio Manitoba Inc. (Newcap) to change the authorized contours of the radio programming undertaking CHNK-FM Winnipeg by increasing the effective radiated power from 1,300 watts to an average effective radiated power of 60,200 watts, by increasing the effective antenna height to 176.1 metres, and by relocating the transmitter.
2. Newcap has indicated that listeners are having difficulty tuning into CHNK-FM with any regularity and therefore more often than not are tuning out. Newcap stated that approval of its application would allow it to better serve Winnipeg and its surrounding areas.
3. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
4. The Commission reminds the licensee that pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, this authority will only be effective when the Department of Industry notifies the Commission that its technical requirements have been met and that a broadcasting certificate will be issued.
