Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2004-548

  Ottawa, 14 December 2004
  TVA Group Inc.

  Application 2004-0568-0
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2004-65

Amendment of commitments related to tangible benefits

1.

The Commission received an application by TVA Group Inc. (TVA) to change one of the eligible benefits that was part of the tangible benefits package related to the transaction approved in Transfer of effective control of TVA to Quebecor Média inc., Decision CRTC 2001-384, 5 July 2001 (Decision 2001-384).

2.

As stated in that decision, TVA made a commitment to contribute $250,000 to the Hexagram research consortium (the Consortium) associated with Concordia University and the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). This contribution was intended to help develop multimedia projects of common interest to Concordia University and UQAM. However, as indicated in TVA's present application, the Consortium was not able to develop such projects.

3.

Instead, TVA proposes to make the following contribution:

TVA will contribute $225,000 to UQAM's Chair of Communications to finance activities related to the communications department, and $25,000 to the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles to finance the Atelier Grand Nordworkshop, bringing together screenwriters and experts from four different Francophone countries.

4.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

5.

The Commission considers that the proposed change is consistent with Decision 2001-384. Accordingly, the Commission approves the application by TVA Group Inc.
