CJOA-FM Thunder Bay and its transmitter - Licence renewal

1.

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CJOA-FM Thunder Bay and its transmitter CJOA-FM-1 Candy Mountain, from 1 September 2004 to 31 August 2011.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

The licence will be subject to the conditions set out in New licence form for commercial radio stations, Public Notice CRTC 1999-137, 24 August 1999, with the exception of conditions of licence 5 and 8. The licence will also be subject to the following conditions:
 
  • The station's programming shall be 100% locally produced.
 
  • The licensee shall not broadcast any commercial messages.
 
  • In each broadcast week, not less than 95% of all musical selections broadcast shall be drawn from subcategory 35 (Non-classic religious).
 
  • In each broadcast week, the licensee shall broadcast, at a minimum, 15% Canadian music content drawn from category 3 (Traditional and special interest music).
 
  • The licensee shall operate the station within the Specialty format as defined in A review of certain matters concerning radio, Public Notice CRTC 1995-60, 21 April 1995, and in Revised content categories and subcategories for radio, Public Notice CRTC 2000-14, 28 January 2000, as amended from time to time.

The Commission reminds the licensee of its commitment to spend $1,500 in each broadcast year to stage concerts of local artists and to offer airtime to local independent artists.
