NORTHWESTEL INC.

COMMISSION INTERROGATORIES DATED 17 JANUARY 2003

301   With reference to the response to interrogatory NWTel(CRTC)1Mar02-6 re Access, Northwestel stated that an additional project in the Halfway River region of Northern British Columbia costing $375,000 has been added to the Service Improvement Plan (SIP) in 2003. Indicate the total number of premises in the region, along with the number of premises that are expected to request telephone service.

302  With reference to the response to interrogatory NWTel(CRTC)01Mar02-3, Attachment 8, page 2 of 2, Broadband Access, Project 3.1.13, provide the results of the economic evaluation (e.g., the results of the net present value study) to justify the expenditures for this project.

303   With reference to Northwestel's evidence dated 12 April 2002, page 5, Northwestel stated that as of March 2002, there were 54 communities without a local dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP). Based on information filed in the proceeding leading to Decision 2000-746 during the period November 1999 to April 2000, Commission staff estimates that in the 24-month timeframe between April 2000 and March 2002, approximately four small communities received the capability for ISP access. Confirm this number and indicate which ISP provided Internet access in the communities in question.

304  For Asset Code 60 - Cable-Aerial/Underground, provide the financial impact in 2002 assuming the life parameters to be (a) Iowa R-3, 26 years and (b) Iowa R-3, 30 years. The response should be provided in the same format as the response to interrogatory NWTel(CRTC)10May02-118, Attachment 2.
