Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2003-56

Ottawa, 19 February 2003

Peace River Broadcasting Corporation Ltd.
High Level, La Crete and Rainbow Lake, Alberta

Application 2002-0429-8
Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2002-76

CKHL-FM High Level - Licence renewal and amendment

1.

The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CKHL-FM High Level, from 1 September 2003 to 31 August 2010, subject to the conditions set out in New licence form for commercial radio stations, Public Notice CRTC 1999-137, 24 August 1999.

2.

Further, the Commission approves the application to amend the licence for CKHL-FM in order to add FM transmitters at La Crete and Rainbow Lake. The new transmitters will operate at 92.1 MHz (channel 221LP) and 93.1 MHz (channel 226LP), with an effective radiated power of 27 watts and of 29 watts, respectively. The Commission notes that the new transmitters will broadcast the programming of CKHL-FM only. There is thus no need for the transmitters to be licensed separately from CKHL-FM.

3.

The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.

4.

Given that the technical parameters of the transmitters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected FM service, the Commission reminds the licensee that it will have to select other frequencies if the Department so requires.

5.

In accordance with Implementation of an employment equity policy, Public Notice CRTC 1992-59, 1 September 1992, the Commission encourages the licensee to consider employment equity issues in its hiring practices and in all other aspects of its management of human resources.
