In a public hearing held at Montréal from 3 to 19 February 2003, the Commission considered 21 applications for new stations to serve the areas of Montréal, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières and Saguenay, as well as five applications for licence amendments that were technically mutually exclusive with new licence applications. In this decision, the Commission denies 12 applications for new radio stations to serve the areas of Montréal, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières and Saguenay as well as one application for a licence amendment.

On 17 January 2002, the Commission issued Call(s) for applications for a broadcasting licence to carry on a radio programming undertaking to serve Montréal, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières and Saguenay (formerly Chicoutimi/ Jonquière), Quebec, BroadcastingPublic Notices CRTC 2002-2, 2002-3, 2002-4 and 2002-5.

Subsequently, the Commission considered 21 applications for new radio stations in the province of Québec, as well as 5 applications for technical change. The Commission considered all these applications filed in response to these calls in a proceeding that included a public hearing held at Montréal from 3 to 19 February 2003.

In Introductory statement to Broadcasting Decisions CRTC 2003-192 to 2003-203: Applications related to radio stations in the Province of Quebec, Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2003-33, 2 July 2003 (the Introductory Statement), the Commission today announces that it has approved four applications for new Montréal radio stations, three applications for new Sherbrooke radio stations and one application for a new Trois-Rivières radio station as well as licence amendment applications by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in order to add transmitters in Montréal and Magog and to change the technical parameters of two stations in Trois-Rivières. The reasons for the approval of the specific individual applications are set out in Broadcasting Decisions CRTC 2003-192 to 2003-203.

In this decision, the Commission denies 13 applications, which are listed in the appendix.
