In Regulations Amending the Radio Regulations, 1986 - Commercial Radio Programming, Public Notice 1998-132, 17 December 1998, the Commission announced that radio stations whose formats are based on the presentation of older music could apply to broadcast a lower level of Canadian popular music than the 35% level required of other commercial radio licensees. The Commission noted the relatively limited supply of Canadian music appropriate for the format of these stations. |

CHUM has applied for a condition of licence for its radio station CJCH Halifax that would allow it to broadcast a minimum level of 30% of Canadian musical selections. The proposed condition is: |

|
The licensee proposes to increasethe effective radiated power from 37 to 15,000 watts, relocate the transmitter to a site approximately 18 km north west of Thunder Bay and increase the effective antenna height from 60 to 165 metres. |
|
The applicant states that the purpose is to rectify the station's current signal deficiencies and to provide a reliable signal to all of the central market of Thunder Bay. |
|
The proposed changes will result in a significant expansion of the licensed service contours. |

Application by RUSSEL C. COOK, on behalf of a non-profit corporation to be incorporated, Opaskwayak Cree Nation (The Pas), for an extension of the time limit to implement the above noted radio programming undertaking near Opaskwayak Cree Nation near The Pas. |

The applicant is requesting an extension until 25 October 2003 to implement the service. |
|
The applicant states "the extension is necessary due to the need of re-examining the existing specifications of our future community station." |
|
The Commission notes that the current applicationrepresents the third request for an extension of time. |
|
The first request for an extension of time was granted from 28 April 2001 to 26 April 2002 in Decision CRTC 2001-761, dated 17 December 2001. The second request was granted in Decision CRTC 2002-115, dated 26 April 2002 and extended the time limit until 25 October 2002. |
|
In Decision CRTC 2000-132, the Commission approved the application for a broadcasting licence to carry on a Type B Native and English-language FM radio programming undertaking at Opaskwayak Cree Nation near The Pas. |

Application by LEARNING AND SKILLS TELEVISION OF ALBERTA LIMITED (ACCESS) to renew the licence for the satellite to cable programming undertaking, and its transmitters CIAN-TV Calgary and CJAL-TV Edmonton expiring 31 December 2002. |

The applicant is proposing to amend its licence by increasing the amount of commercial advertising from 501 minutes per week to 756 minutes per week. This would allow the licensee to air a maximum of 12 minutes of advertising during each of the 63 hours when advertising is allowed. |

Victoria, British Columbia |
Application by the CANADIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION (CBC) to amend the licence of radio station CBUF-FM Vancouver to modify the technical parameters of its FM monophonic transmitter in Victoria. |
|
In Decision CRTC 99-480 dated 28 October 1999, the Commission approved an application by the applicant allowing it to add a French language FM mono transmitter in Victoria to broadcast the programming of "La Première Chaîne" of CBC Vancouver, but was denied the used of the proposed frequency (89.7 MHz). |
|
The applicant was to file an application proposing the use of a different frequency. |
|
In Decision CRTC 2001-316 dated 5 June 2001, the Commission denied the application to amend the broadcasting licence of CBUF-FM Vancouver by modifying the technical parameters of the transmitter at Victoria. The CBC had proposed to operate the transmitter on frequency 88.9 MHz, (channel 205C1) with an effective radiated power of 2,800 watts. |
|
The applicant is now proposing to operate the transmitter on frequency 99.7 MHz (channel 259A) with an effective radiated power of 160 watts. |
