Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2002-8

Ottawa, 24 January 2002

Bell Globemedia Inc., on behalf of The NHL Network Inc. and The Sports Network Inc. (TSN)
Across Canada

Applications 2001-1092-4, 2001-1096-6, 2001-1095-8
Public Notice CRTC 2001-117

Amendment to the definition of "broadcast day"

1.

The Commission approves the applications by Bell Globemedia Inc., on behalf of The NHL Network Inc. and The Sports Network Inc. (TSN), to amend the conditions of licence of the Category 2 national specialty television services The NHL Network (formerly The Hockey Network) and ESPN Classic Canada (formerly Classic Sports), as well as of the Category 1 national specialty television service WTSN (formerly Women's Sports Network), relating to the definition of the term "broadcast day".

2.

The amended condition of licence for each of the above-mentioned services will read as follows:

"broadcast day" means a 24-hour period beginning at 00:00:00 hour Eastern time.

3.

The applicant stated that other CTV sports specialty services it owns, and which use a 24-hour broadcast day definition all begin their log reporting day at 00:00:00 for operating and administrative purposes only.

4.

In approving these applications, the Commission has taken into account the fact that the proposed definition of "broadcast day" will not affect the programming or the licensing requirements of these services.

Secretary General
