Broadcasting Circular CRTC 2002-447

Ottawa, 19 February 2002

Applications to renew the licences of cable distribution undertakings

1.

This circular is related to Public Notice CRTC 2001-59 dated 29 May 2001 entitled Changes to the Commission's approach to cable undertakings - Proposed exemption for cable systems with fewer than 2,000 subscribers, and implementation of a regional licensing model, as well as Public Notice CRTC 2001-121 dated 7 December 2001 entitled Exemption order respecting cable systems having fewer than 2,000 subscribers.

2.

In light of the new licensing approach adopted by the Commission, much of the information contained in applications for licence renewal submitted by cable distribution undertakings since 1999 is no longer relevant. The Commission will therefore not process these applications. In many instances, licensees will be required to submit new licence renewal applications. The Commission will contact those licensees affected by this requirement at a later date.
