Decision CRTC 2001-44

  Ottawa, 2 February 2001
  Northern Native Broadcasting, Yukon
Whitehorse and Good Hope Lake, British Columbia 2000-1972-0
  Application processed by
Public Notice CRTC 2000-161
dated 4 December 2000
  Licence amendment for CHON-FM
1. The Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CHON-FM Whitehorse (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Good Hope Lake.
2. As proposed, the new FM transmitter will operate on frequency 98.1 MHz, channel 251VLP, with an effective radiated power of 10 watts.
3. The authority will be effective and the licence will be amended only at such time as:

  • the licensee confirms in writing that it is ready to begin operation of the transmitter. This must take place within 12 months of today's date. Any request for an extension to that deadline requires Commission approval and must be made in writing within that period.

  • the Department of Industry, having advised that the application is conditionally technically acceptable, has determined that there is no unacceptable interference with NAV/COM services and indicated that it will issue a broadcasting certificate (section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act).
4. The technical parameters approved in this decision are for a low-power unprotected FM service. The applicant would have to select another frequency if required to do so to permit the best use of the frequency band.
