Decision CRTC 2001-26

Ottawa, 25 January 2001

Radio Basse-Ville
Québec, Quebec 2000-0470-6

Application processed by Public Notice CRTC 2000-152 dated 8 November 2000

Licence amendment for CKIA-FM Quebec

1.

The Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CKIA-FM Québec, by authorizing the licensee to change the frequency from 96.1 MHz (channel 241LP) to 88.3 MHz (channel 202A), to increase the effective radiated power from 6.8 to 350 watts, and to increase its hours of broadcast from 98 to 110 hours per week. Further, the Commission authorizes the licensee, by condition of licence, to broadcast simultaneously on the two frequencies for a period of two months from the date of this decision.

2.

The licensee states that the technical amendments are designed to eliminate the interference problems that affect reception of its signal in urban areas and to allow it to serve a larger portion of the centretown section of Quebec City, the towns of Vanier and Lévis, and part of the town of Sillery.

3.

The Commission authorizes the licensee to operate the undertaking on the basis of the contours and particulars resulting from the above-mentioned change.

4.

The authority will be effective and the licence will be amended only at such time as the Department of Industry, having advised that the application is conditionally technically acceptable, has determined that there is no unacceptable interference with NAV/COM services and indicated that it will issue a broadcasting certificate (section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act).
