Licence renewal for ethnic radio station CJVB |

1. |
The Commission renews the broadcasting licence for CJVB Vancouver, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007, subject to the conditions specified in this decision and in the licence to be issued, as also set out in Public Notice CRTC 1999-137. |

It is a condition of licence that the licensee provide programming directed to a minimum of 23 cultural groups in a minimum of 23 different languages. |

The Commission is satisfied with the initiatives proposed by the licensee to reflect local issues and concerns over the new licence term. |

The licensee will not take part in the Canadian talent development plan established by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Instead, it is a condition of licence that the licensee adhere to its commitment to contribute $28,000 each year in direct cost expenditures to CJVB's "Canadian Chinese Song Writers Quest".Under this contest, CJVB invites song writers to submit compositions in Cantonese or Mandarin. The songs of ten finalists will then be recorded and made available on compact disc. |

The Commission reminds the licensee that all direct cost expenditures related to Canadian talent development must comply with the criteria set out in Public Notice 1990-111 which describes initiatives generally accepted by the Commission. |

The Commission encourages the licensee to consider employment equity issues in its hiring practices and in all other aspects of its management of human resources (PN 1992-59). |
