Le Canal Nouvelles – Licence amendment
Following Public Notice CRTC 1997-149 dated 19 December 1997, the Commission approves the application by Télé-Métropole inc. to amend the broadcasting licence for the French-language specialty programming undertaking Le Canal Nouvelles (LCN) by authorizing the distribution of this service across Canada. The Commission notes that this service was originally licensed as a regional for distribution in the Province of Quebec only.
Accordingly, the Commission deletes condition of licence no. 1(a) and substitutes the following therefor:
1.(a) The licensee shall provide a national, French-language specialty service and shall draw its programs exclusively from category 1 (News) and category 3 (Reporting and actualities) as set out in item 6 of Schedule I of the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990.
The Commission is satisfied that the distribution of this service on a national basis will enhance the choice of French-language programming services that may be offered to Francophones outside Quebec. It notes that the distribution of Le Canal Nouvelles is subject to the New Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting Distribution Undertakings announced in Public Notice CRTC 1997-25 dated 11 March 1997 and to the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations which came into effect on 1 January 1998.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
