Decision CRTC 98-1

Vision TV: Canada's Faith Network

Across Canada - 199706412

Suspensive conditions of licence for Vision TV

1. In Public Notice CRTC 1997-115 dated 29 August 1997, the Commission announced an application by Vision TV: Canada's Faith Network/Réseau Religieux Canadien, licensee of the national English-language specialty programming undertaking known as Vision TV, providing interfaith religious programming, requesting that the Commission suspend the application of the conditions of its licence dealing with solicitation of funds, gender portrayal and violence in television programming, as long as the licensee remains a member in good standing of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council.

2. The Commission approves this application. In this regard, the existing conditions of licence 9(e), 11 and 13(a) and (b) are deleted and the following substituted therefor:

9.(e) All sollicitation of funds on Vision TV must conform with the provisions of the licensee's Code of Ethics and Program Practices, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission, subject to the limitations as to time set out in this condition. The application of the foregoing condition of licence will be suspended as long as the licensee remains a member in good standing of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC).

11. The licensee shall adhere to the guidelines on gender portrayal set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) Sex-Role Portrayal Code for Television and Radio Programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission. The application of the foregoing condition of licence will be suspended as long as the licensee remains a member in good standing of the CBSC.

13.(a) The licensee shall adhere to the guidelines on the depiction of violence in television programming set out in the CAB's Voluntary Code Regarding Violence in Television Programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission until such time as the Commission approves the licensee's own guidelines on the depiction of violence in programming.

(b) Once they are submitted by the licensee and approved by the Commission, the licensee shall adhere to its own guidelines on the depiction of violence in program-ming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission. The application of condition of licence 13(a) and (b) will be sus-pended as long as the licensee remains a member in good standing of the CBSC.

This decision is to be appended to the licence.
