Public Notice CRTC 1997-115

The Commission has received the following applications:

ONTARIO REGION

1.  MARATHON, NIPIGON/RED ROCK, HORNEPAYNE, GERALDTON, LONGLAC, DUBREUILVILLE, CHAPLEAU, Ontario

Application (199613120) by NORTH SUPERIOR BROADCASTING LTD., P.O. Box 1000, Marathon, Ontario, P0T 2E0, to renew the broadcasting licence of the (radio) programming undertaking CFNO-FM Marathon and its rebroadcasters CFNO-FM-1 Nipigon/Red Rock, CFNO-FM-2 Hornepayne, CFNO-FM-4 Geraldton, CFNO-FM-5 Longlac, CFNO-FM-6 Dubreuilville and CFNO-FM-8 Chapleau expiring 30 November 1997.

The Commission notes the apparent failure of the licensee to comply with section 8 of the Radio Regulations, 1986, (the regulations) concerning the provision of logger tapes, and with subsection 2.2(3) of the regulations, pertaining to Canadian content.

2.  TORONTO, Ontario

Application (199706412) by VISION TV: CANADA'S FAITH NETWORK/RÉSEAU RELIGIEUX CANADIEN (VISION TV) to amend its broadcasting licence to carry on a national English-language specialty programming undertaking providing interfaith religious programming, by suspending the following conditions of licence, as long as the licensee remains a member in good standing of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council (CBSC).

Conditions of licence:

9(e) All solicitation of funds on VISION TV must conform with the provisions of the licensee's "Code of Ethics and Program Practices", as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission, subject to the limitations as to time set out in this condition.

11. The licensee shall adhere to the guidelines on gender portrayal set out in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' (CAB) "Sex-Role Portrayal Code for Television and Radio Programming", as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.

13(a) The licensee shall adhere to the guidelines on the depiction of violence in television programming set out in the CAB's "Voluntary Code Regarding Violence in Television Programming", as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission, until such time as the Commission approves the licensee's own guidelines on the depiction of violence in programming.

(b) Once they are submitted by the licensee and approved by the Commission, the licensee shall adhere to its own guidelines on the depiction of violence in programming, as amended from time to time and approved by the Commission.
