NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

ISSUE NO. 1

TORONTO, ONTARIO

26 MAY 1997, 9:00 A.M.

The Commission will hold a public hearing commencing on 26 May 1997, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

This Notice includes several applications for broadcasting licences to carry on new Multipoint Distribution Systems (MDS) Radiocommunication Distribution Undertakings to provide service in Southern Ontario, following a call on 26 November 1996 (Public Notice CRTC 1996-150). These applications are, in part, technically mutually exclusive. In light of the Commission's Public Notice CRTC 1997-25 on "New Regulatory Framework for Broadcasting Distribution Undertakings" issued on 11 March 1997, the Commission hereby provides the aforementioned MDS applicants with the opportunity to address the proposed regulatory changes and the impact, if any, on their proposals. Applicants may amend or supplement their applications in light of the policy announced in the Public Notice and are requested to submit their comments to the Commission by 11 April 1997 at the latest, at which time the information will be placed on the public file.
