Decision

Ottawa, 5 September 1997
Decision CRTC 97-540
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Québec and Montréal, Quebec - 199705605
Licence amendment for CBMT
1. Following Public Notice CRTC 1997-100 dated 24 July 1997, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the television programming undertaking CBMT Montréal (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Québec, operating on channel 5 with an effective radiated power of 13,850 watts.
2. The CBC submitted this application in response to Decision CRTC 97-85 dated 27 February 1997 approving an application by TVA CanWest Limited Partnership (TVA Canwest), now known as Global Television Network Quebec Limited Partnership (Global), to acquire the assets of CKMI-TV Québec from Télé-Métropole inc. In that decision, the Commission also approved CKMI-TV's disaffiliation from the CBC English-language television network. The Commission stated that the approvals granted in that decision:
are subject to the condition precedent that a CBC English-language service be otherwise provided at Québec prior to, or concurrently with, the implementation of the said approvals.
3. To facilitate the establishment of a CBC English-language television service at Québec, Global and the CBC have agreed that CBC's service will be located on channel 5 and that CKMI-TV will move to channel 20.
4. In a related decision also released today (Decision CRTC 97-541), the Commission has approved Global's applications to amend the technical parameters of CKMI-TV and its transmitter at Montréal.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
