Amendments to the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, the Cable Television Regulations, 1986, the Pay Television Regulations, 1990, and the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990
)In Public Notice CRTC 1996-49, the Commission proposed changes to the Regulations listed above in order to harmonize the English and French versions of the definition of "associate". A further amendment was also proposed to the Pay Television Regulations, 1990 and the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990 in order to harmonize the English and French versions of the cross-ownership provisions.
No comments were submitted in response to the call for comments. Accordingly, the Commission has made the amendments to the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, the Cable Television Regulations, 1986, the Pay Television Regulations, 1990 and the Specialty Services Regulations, 1990; the amendments are attached to this notice and are in the same form as that published in Public Notice CRTC 1996-49. The amendments were registered on 26 June 1996 and came into force on that date. They were published in the Canada Gazette Part II on 10 July 1996

WHEREAS, pursuant to subsection 10(3) of the Broadcasting Act*, a copy of the proposed amendment to the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, substantially in the form set out in the schedule hereto, was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on April 13, 1996 and a reasonable opportunity was thereby given to licensees and other interested persons to make representations to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission with respect thereto;
THEREFORE, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, pursuant to subsection 10(1) of the Broadcasting Act*, hereby amends the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987, made on January 9, 1987**, in accordance with the schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE
1. Paragraphs (e) and (f)1 of the definition "associate" in subsection 14(1) of the English version of the Television Broadcasting Regulations, 1987 are replaced by the following:
(e) a corporation of which the person alone, or a person together with one or more associates as described in this definition, has, directly or indirectly, control of 50 per cent or more of the voting interests,
(f) a corporation of which an associate, as described in this definition, of the person has, directly or indirectly, control of 50 per cent or more of the voting interests, and
EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations.)
The purpose of this amendment is to harmonize the English and French versions of the definition "associate".

(e) a corporation of which the person alone, or a person together with one or more associates as described in this definition, has, directly or indirectly, control of 50 per cent or more of the voting interests,
(f) a corporation of which an associate, as described in this definition, of the person has, directly or indirectly, control of 50 per cent or more of the voting interests, and
(2) Subparagraph 6(4)(d)(i)1 of the Regulations is replaced by the following:
(i) who controls less than 10 per cent of the voting interests of the licensee, having control of 10 per cent or more but less than 30 per cent of those interests, or
(3) Subparagraph 6(4)(d)(ii)1 of the French version of the Regulations is replaced by the following:
(ii) qui contrôle moins de 10 pour cent des intérêts avec droit de vote d'une personne qui détient, directement ou indirectement, le contrôle effectif du titulaire, contrôlerait ainsi 10 pour cent ou plus mais moins de 30 pour cent de ces intérêts.
