Decision

Ottawa, 9 October 1996
Decision CRTC 96-664
Pelmorex Radio Inc.
Kapuskasing, Ontario - 199607834
Licence amendment for CKOY
Following Public Notice CRTC 1996-113 dated 15 August 1996, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CKOY Timmins (the originating station), by adding the transmitter CHYK at Kapuskasing, operating on frequency 1230 kHz with a day-time transmitter power of 1,000 watts and a night-time transmitter power of 600 watts.
The licensee indicated that its radio programming undertaking CHYK Kapuskasing was unable to continue operation due to losses resulting from a weak local economy and competition from a community FM station. The Commission notes that CHYK has ceased all local programming and is now rebroadcasting the programs of CKOY.
Consequently, Pelmorex Radio Inc. (Pelmorex) has requested the revocation of its licence for CHYK.
In view of the licensee's request and pursuant to paragraph 9(1)(e) and subsection 24(1) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission hereby revokes the licence issued to Pelmorex for CHYK Kapuskasing.
This decision is to be appended to the licence.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
