Decision CRTC 95-804
Robson Valley Entertainment Association
McBride, British Columbia - 941634800
Licence amendment
Following Public Notice CRTC 1995-96 dated 14 June 1995, the Commission approves the application to amend the licence for the radiocommunication distribution undertaking serving McBride, by authorizing the licensee to add two low-power television transmitters to provide, in non-encrypted mode, the programming services of The Family Channel and Allarcom Pay Television Limited (SuperChannel), on channels 9 and 11 respectively, each with a transmitter power of 50 watts.
The Commission notes that the licensee has been distributing, without authorization, the programming services of the Atlantic Satellite Network (ASN) and The Family Channel.
The Commission looks seriously upon the fact that these signals were placed on the air without Commission approval and it intends to monitor closely the licensee to ensure that it adheres to the conditions of its licence and distributes only those signals authorized by the Commission.
The Commission notes that an opposing intervention was submitted by Trico Cable Systems Ltd. (Trico), which holds a cable distribution undertaking licence to serve McBride. Trico currently distributes the programming services of Allarcom Pay Television Limited (SuperChannel) and The Family Channel on a discretionary basis, and argued that approval of this application could have a significant impact on the viability of its operation.
The Commission has examined closely the comments expressed in Trico's intervention but is satisfied that approval of this application remains in the public interest.
