Decision

Ottawa, 8 August 1994
Decision CRTC 94-523
C I N I Radio FM Ltée
Mistassini (Baie-du-Poste), Quebec - 932353600
Licence renewal for CINI-FM
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1994-29 dated 21 March 1994, the Commission renews the broadcasting licence for the native radio programming undertaking CINI-FM Mistassini (Baie-du-Poste), from 1 September 1994 to 31 August 1999, subject to the conditions in effect under the current licence, as well as to those conditions specified in the licence to be issued.
This term will enable the Commission to consider the renewal of this licence at the same time as that of other native radio stations across Canada.
The Commission notes that CINI-FM will broadcast 100 hours per week of local programming, of which 75 hours will be in Cree, 15 hours in French and 10 hours in English.
The Commission notes that this station is a Type A FM native radio station in accordance with Public Notice CRTC 1990-89 dated 20 September 1990 entitled "Native Broadcasting Policy" (the Policy).
The Commission acknowledges the intervention submitted by Radio Chibougamau Inc., licensee of CJMD Chibougamau and its transmitter CFED Chapais, expressing concerns that approval of this application would adversely affect the operations of CJMD and CFED.
The Commission has noted the licensee's reply and is satisfied that it adequately addresses the concerns expressed by Radio Chibougamau Inc.
The Commission considers that CINI-FM plays an important role in its community with its distinct programming and its contribution to the commercial life of the region, fulfilling the expectations expressed in the Policy with respect to native undertakings.

Secretary General
