Public Notice CRTC 1993-37
Kings Kable Limited
Kentville and area, Nova Scotia-921444600
In Public Notice CRTC 1993-1 dated 5 January 1993, the Commission announced receipt of an application by Kings Kable Limited (Kings Kable) to change the authorized service area for its cable distribution undertaking serving Kentville and area, by including an area adjacent to the Hayes Subdivision in Coldbrook.
An intervention opposing approval of the above-noted application has been filed by Cross Country TV Limited (Cross Country), the licensee of both a cable distribution undertaking serving nearby Cambridge Station, and of a subscription-based undertaking whose Grade B contour encloses a substantial portion of the area to which Kings Kable proposes to extend cable service. The intervener has requested that it be permitted to submit a competing application for authority to extend the service area of its Cambridge Station cable system to include, at least, the same area that Kings Kable proposes to serve.
Given that the area adjacent to the Hayes Subdivision is a new subdivision as yet undeveloped, and given the evident interest of both parties in providing cable service to the area in question, the Commission considers that the public interest would be best served by providing Cross Country the opportunity it has requested to file an application to compete with that of Kings Kable.
Accordingly, the Commission invites Cross Country to submit a completed application by 15 June 1993. Upon receipt of such an application, the Commission would expect to schedule both it and that by Kings Kable (together with any amendments the latter may wish to make to its proposal in the interim) for consideration at a public hearing commencing 7 December 1993 in Halifax.
Should Cross Country fail to submit a completed application by the deadline specified above, the Commission will proceed with consideration of the application by Kings Kable, as currently filed.
