Decision

Ottawa, 29 May 1992
Decision CRTC 92-324
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Churchill, Manitoba - 920113800
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1992-26 dated 31 March 1992, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CHFC Churchill by decreasing the transmitter power from 1,000 watts to 250 watts.
The Commission notes that the reduction in power approved herein will not affect CHFC's present coverage. In Decision CRTC 85-58, the Commission approved an increase in CHFC's day-time and night-time transmitter power from 250 watts to 1,000 watts. This power increase was intended to improve CHFC's signal quality and to eliminate potential night-time interference from Class C stations which were allowed to increase their night-time power, as part of a bilateral agreement between Canada and the U.S.A. The CBC did not implement the power increase because the potential night-time interference by these Class C stations never materialized. The CBC has advised the Commission that CHFC's current operation at 250 watts provides good coverage to Churchill.
