Decision

Ottawa, 15 October 1992
Decision CRTC 92-727
Till-Cable TV Limited
Tillsonburg, Ontario - 910790500
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1992-54 dated 14 August 1992, the Commission approves the application by Till-Cable TV Limited to amend the licence for the cable distribution undertaking serving Tillsonburg, by deleting the carriage of WUAB (IND) Cleveland, Ohio, and substituting for it WETG (Fox) Erie, Pennsylvania.
In Public Notice CRTC 1986-182 announcing the enactment of the Cable Television Regulations, 1986 (the regulations), the Commission stated that the carriage of non-Canadian television stations whose signals are receivable over the air at the local head end, and that commenced operation after 1 January 1985, such as WETG in this case, would not be authorized automatically through the regulations. Instead, licensees wishing to carry such stations were directed to apply to the Commission for authorization on a case-by-case basis.
Upon review of this application, the Commission is satisfied that WETG is predominantly directed to a U.S. market and will not materially compete with Canadian stations for advertising dollars or otherwise affect existing broadcasters in the area. Moreover, the Commission notes the licensee's statement that WETG offers similar programming to WUAB and that the Erie station provides a more reliable signal to Tillsonburg.
