Decision

Ottawa, 1 May 1992
Decision CRTC 92-258
Power Broadcasting Inc.
Oshawa, Ontario - 911625200
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1992-11 dated 5 February 1992, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for the programming undertaking CHEX-TV Peterborough (the originating station), by authorizing the licensee to add a transmitter at Oshawa, operating on channel 22, with an effective radiated power of 2440 watts, to rebroadcast the programs of CHEX-TV.
The Department of Communications has advised that the proposed transmitter will provide an improved service to viewers in Oshawa, Whitby and the surrounding area who are not cable television subscribers.
This approval is subject to the requirement that construction of the transmitting facilities be completed and that they be in operation within twelve months of the date of this decision or, where the licensee applies to the Commission and satisfies the Commission that it cannot complete implementation before the expiry of this period and that an extension is in the public interest, within such further periods of time as may be approved in writing by the Commission.
Should the Commission refuse to approve an extension of time requested by the licensee, the authority granted shall lapse and become null and void upon the termination of the last approved extension period. The Commission acknowledges the intervention to this application, submitted by Rogers Cable T.V. Limited, and is satisfied with the licensee's response to the concerns raised.
The Commission also notes the supporting intervention submitted by the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce.
Allan J. Darling
Secretary General
