Telecom Public Notice

Ottawa, 26 July 1991
Telecom Public Notice CRTC 1991-59
NORTHWESTEL INC. - RESTRUCTURING OF RATES FOR DATAPAC SERVICE
Reference: Tariff Notice 404
The Commission has received an application from Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel), dated 14 June 1991, for approval of tariff revisions related to Datapac Service.
Northwestel proposes major changes to the rate structure and rate levels for Datapac Service. The proposed revisions include the introduction of discounts for usage and for commitments to quantities of asynchronous access arrangements, the reclassification of Datapac serving areas and changes in the rating of access arrangements, the simplification of the network usage rate structure and the elimination of usage-sensitive Packet Assembler/Disassembler (PAD) charges. Northwestel states that it is proposing the changes in order to maintain parity with proposed Telecom Canada Datapac tariff revisions (see CRTC Telecom Public Notice 1991-24, 30 April 1991).
Northwestel also proposes tariff revisions with respect to Shared Access to Datapac 3201 from outside a Datapac serving area. Specifically, the company proposes to add a monthly charge for an interexchange data channel when it has only one customer requesting the service. Finally, Northwestel proposes to delete references to Datapac Outdial Service from its tariffs.
The application may be examined at any of Northwestel's business offices or at the offices of the CRTC, Room 201, Central Building, Les Terrasses de la Chaudière, 1 Promenade du Portage, Hull, Quebec, or Suite 1380, 800 Burrard Street, Vancouver, British Columbia. A copy of the application may be obtained by any interested person upon request directed to the company at the address noted below.
If you wish to comment on the application, please write to Mr. Allan J. Darling, Secretary General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0N2, by 29 August 1991. A copy of your letter should be sent to Ms. S.A. Simpson, Director of Administration & Regulatory Affairs, Northwestel Inc., P.O. Bag 2727, 301 Lambert Street, Whitehorse, Yukon, Y1A 4Y4.
