Decision

Ottawa, 29 May 1991
Decision CRTC 91-337
Power Broadcasting Inc.
Barrie, Ontario - 900852500
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1991-13 dated 24 January 1991, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CKBB Barrie by increasing the authorized night-time transmitter power from 2,500 watts to 10,000 watts.
The Commission notes the licensee's intention to also install a new antenna system that will result in a slight change in the day-time radiation pattern. Power Broadcasting Inc. stated that these changes will provide better service in its coverage area.
The Commission notes the intervention received from Mr. Cam Turnbull of Barrie, expressing concern that the proposed changes may affect the reception quality of other radio services in the area. The Commission is satisfied with the licensee's response to Mr. Turnbull's concerns and is of the view that these modifications to the currently authorized signal contours will not cause undue harm to other services in the area. Moreover, it notes that the Department of Communications has determined that this proposal is technically acceptable. In accordance with paragraph 13(1)(b) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from the Department of Communications that it will issue an amendment to the Broadcasting Certificate.
