Decision

Ottawa, 12 February 1990
Decision CRTC 90-89
Radio Atlantic (CKCL) Ltd.
Truro, Nova Scotia - 890004500
Pursuant to Public Notice CRTC 1989-116 dated 17 October 1989, the Commission approves the application to amend the broadcasting licence for CKTO-FM Truro by increasing the effective radiated power from 11,500 watts to 50,000 watts and by relocating the transmitter site from Young Street to Nutby Mountain, approximately 25 kilometers north of the present site.
The licensee has indicated that these changes will result in good reliable service to the Tatamagouche area along the Northumberland Strait. Further, although the station's coverage will now extend into Prince Edward Island, the licensee has undertaken not to solicit or accept advertising in that province.
The Department of Communications (DOC) has advised the Commission that this proposal is technically acceptable, but that issuance of an amendment to the Broadcasting Certificate is conditional on the resolution of any problems involving interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. In accordance with paragraph 13(1)(b) of the Broadcasting Act, the Commission will only issue the licence amendment, and the authority granted herein may only be implemented, at such time as written notification is received from the DOC that it will issue an amendment to the Broadcasting Certificate.
Fernand Bélisle
Secretary General
