Application for a public proceeding on the issue of access to public pay phones by deaf consumers
2004/07/15 - Telecom Decision CRTC 2004-47 The Commission establishes a notification process applicable to Aliant Telecom Inc., Bell Canada, MTS Communications Inc., Saskatchewan Telecommunications and Télébec, Limited Partnership (collectively, Bell Canada et al.) and TELUS Communications Inc. and TELUS Communications (Québec) Inc. (collectively, TCI) in instances where the last pay telephone in a community is scheduled for removal. The Commission finds that Bell Canada et al. and TCI are unjustly discriminating against deaf consumers in the provision of pay telephone service contrary to subsection 27(2) of the Telecommunications Act. The Commission directs Bell Canada et al. and TCI to implement a teletypewriter upgrade program for certain pay telephones. Reference: 8650-C90-01/01 and 8665-C12-18/02.
2002/12/05 - Telecom Public Notice CRTC 2002-6 Access to pay telephone service. The Commission invites comments on issues relating to access to pay telephone service in Canada, including access by hearing-impaired and speech-impaired consumers. Reference: 8650-C90-01/01 and 8665-C12-18/02.
