List of digital news intermediaries
Notification that the Online News Act applies
The Online News Act is intended to help Canadian news organizations reach fair commercial agreements with the largest online platforms that make their news content available.
A digital news intermediary (DNI) is an online platform, like a search engine or social media service, that makes news content from news outlets available to people in Canada. It does not include messaging services designed for private communication between individuals.
The Online News Act and the Government of Canada’s Online News Application and Exemption Regulations explain which DNI the Act applies to and when their operators must notify the CRTC.
Under the Online News Act, the CRTC must maintain a list of operators that have filed notifications for their DNI. The following operators have notified the CRTC that the Act applies to their listed DNI.
