Operating context

Canadians and Indigenous Peoples rely on high-quality broadband Internet access service in their daily lives more than ever. In 2021-22, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) continued to stay abreast of ongoing disruptions in the communications sector, including the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through knowledge partnerships and more dialogue with Canadians and Indigenous Peoples, the CRTC also continued to increase its knowledge base of the trends and its understanding of their implications for a world-class Canadian communications system.

At the same time, the CRTC examined potential options for appropriate measures that would be required in light of anticipated changes to the Broadcasting Act, including the impact that the efficient and effective implementation of these changes would have on its operations.
