Subject: Procedural Requests to the Part 1 Application for the Review and Variance of Mandatory Notification and Reporting of Major Telecommunications Service Outages, Telecom Decision CRTC 2025-225, 4 September 2025
In Telecom Decision 2025-225 (the Decision), the Commission implemented mandatory notification and reporting requirements for major service outages.
On 7 October 2025, several telecommunications service providers (the Applicants) filed a Part 1 Application for the Review and Variance of Telecom Decision 2025-225. The deadline to file interventions was 10 November 2025, and the deadline to file reply comments was 20 November 2025.
On 13 November 2025, Telesat filed an intervention with the Commission (The letter is dated 10 November (the intervention deadline) but was submitted to the Commission on 13 November.) On 20 November 2025, the Applicants filed a procedural request, seeking an extension to the reply deadline until 28 November 2025. That same day, the Commission received procedural requests asking that the Commission reject Telesat’s late intervention and deny the Applicants’ extension request. On 27 November 2025, the Applicants filed their reply with the Commission.
The Commission considers that accepting Telesat’s intervention would serve the public interest by helping ensure a comprehensive record. Accordingly, the intervention is accepted.
The Commission also considers that the Applicants’ request for an extension to the reply deadline would serve the public interest by helping ensure a full response to all the interventions, including Telesat’s. Accordingly, the Commission grants the requested extension and accepts the Applicants’ 27 November 2025 reply submission.
In the interests of an efficient and effective proceeding, parties are reminded of the need to adhere to Commission deadlines. Parties are encouraged to communicate requests for extensions to the Commission as soon as possible.
