Addition of TVB Vietnam to the List of non-Canadian programming services and stations authorized for distribution

The Commission approves an application from Rogers Communications Canada Inc., acting as the Canadian sponsor, to add the non-Canadian general interest third-language service TVB Vietnam to the List of non-Canadian programming services and stations authorized for distribution (the list). The Commission did not receive any interventions regarding this application.
The applicant stated that TVB Vietnam will provide popular Vietnamese language programming to Canadian audiences. It noted that the service will broadcast dramatic programming, along with a mix of action, romance, comedy, family stories, and sci-fi, all dubbed in Vietnamese. The applicant further stated that there is no other discretionary programming service offered in Canada today that is comparable to TVB Vietnam.
As set out in Regulatory frameworks for broadcasting distribution undertakings and discretionary programming services – Regulatory policy, Broadcasting Public Notice CRTC 2008-100, 30 October 2008, requests to add non-Canadian general interest third-language services to the list are generally approved, subject to any requirements the Commission deems appropriate. The Commission does not consider that the record of the proceeding has shown any requirements to be necessary in this case.
Accordingly, the Commission will add this service to the list. The revised list can be found on the Commission’s website at www.crtc.gc.ca and may be obtained in hard copy on request.
