Subject: Introduction of residential and business telephone services in Atlin, BC by Northwestel Inc. – request for extension to provide responses
Dear Alexandra Konkina:
On 9 April 2024, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) staff sent the Taku River Tlingit First Nation (TRTFN) a request for information (RFI) in relation to the transition of residential and business telephone services in Atlin, BC from TELUS Communications Inc. to Northwestel Inc. (Northwestel) The CRTC was seeking information from the community to determine whether Northwestel’s proposals meet the needs of the community and whether there continues to be any concerns.
On 10 May 2024, CRTC staff granted an extension to filing the response to the RFI to 31 July 2024. This extension was to allow time for the TRTFN to i) collect, collate and analyse billing information samples for periods up to June 2024, ii) consult with Northwestel on the information provided by these billing samples, and iii) provide its finding to the CRTC.
On 9 August 2024, CRTC staff received a request (via email) to extend the 31 July 2024 filing date for the RFI response to 30 August 2024. The TRTFN indicated that due to the recent departure of key staff members it requires additional time to provide the response.
Under the circumstances, CRTC staff agrees to the requested extension. As such, the TRTFN is to provide its response to the request for information by 30 August 2024.
Northwestel has 10 calendar days to file a reply to the information submitted by the TRTFN.
The CRTC remains committed to maintaining an expedient process and is seeking to resolve this file to ensure a smooth transfer of services for the community in Altin.
Yours sincerely,
