Subject: Extension of the next-generation 9-1-1 implementation deadlines
Dear Ministers Farnworth and Chow,
We are following up on your letter filed with the Commission on 24 June 2024.
Commission staff appreciates your perspective on the challenges that 9-1-1 stakeholders in British Columbia (BC) face in implementing next-generation 9-1-1. We are working with these organizations to ensure that Canadians have access to innovative, high-quality and reliable 9-1-1 services.
Staff acknowledges your request that the Commission consider an extension to the current March 2025 deadline by which all Canadian telecommunication service providers must implement next-generation 9-1-1.
As you note in your letter, the Commission has received similar requests, including applications submitted on behalf of E-Comm Emergency Communications for British Columbia Inc., BC Emergency Health Services, RCMP E-Division, and Saanich Fire requesting that the Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) networks remain available until the end of 2025.
For transparency, your correspondence and this letter will be added to the Commission’s public record associated with the extension requests mentioned above.
I want to thank you again for the time and effort you took in sharing your views. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Étienne Robelin at etienne.robelin@crtc.gc.ca.
Yours sincerely,
