Subject: Expedited treatment of Part 1 application 2024-0380-7
Bev Kirshenblatt,
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) filed the above-noted application related to the broadcasting licence for the French-language radio programming undertaking CBF-FM-8 Trois-Rivières, Quebec, to modify the parameters of its rebroadcasting transmitter CBF-FM-16 in Clova, Quebec.
The CBC is proposing to change CBF-FM-16's authorized frequency and other parameters, since the antenna, as manufactured, cannot operate at the frequency (95.1 MHz) previously selected and approved by the Commission in Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2023-168. To operate within the authorized parameters, CBC has installed a temporary antenna to broadcast on the authorized frequency. However, according to the CBC, it is not possible to use this temporary antenna on a longer-term basis as it is emergency equipment that is not designed to be durable over a long period. Given the temporary nature of this antenna, Clova listeners are exposed to a high risk of signal loss.
Therefore, the CBC is asking the Commission to process this application as soon as possible so that the new antenna can be implemented in the fall of 2024, before winter weather conditions deteriorate in this remote region.
The applicant’s request is approved. Accordingly, the timetable for the process will be as follows:
- Any interested parties may file an intervention by 16 September 2024.
- CBC may file a reply to any interventions received by 23 September 2024.
A copy of this letter and all related correspondence will be added to the public record of the proceeding.
Yours sincerely,
